How to Jump-start a Car
When your car runs out of juice, you may have to use a jumper cable and a good samaritan's vehicle whose battery's voltage should be almost equivalent to your car. Having armed yourself with these two, follow the below "how-to" guide on jump-starting your vehicle.
- Park both cars adjacent to each other, engage the parking or neutral gear and ensure that both vehicles are on parking brakes.
- A jumper cable has both positive (red) and negative (black) terminals like those of your battery.
- Taking note of this, clamp the positive terminal of your battery.
- Next, connect the positive clip to the rescue car's battery.
- Attach the negative (black) clip to the working battery and then connect the remaining negative clip to your vehicle's unpainted metal surface.
- Start the engine of the rescue car. Then, start your vehicle and let it run for at least 20 minutes for the battery to recharge.
If your car doesn't start, you may want to check the cables and ensure they are aptly connected and let the rescue car run for at least five minutes. If your vehicle still fails to start, it's time to replace the battery.
